Root protection in special welding process

Gas mixtures for all back-protection processes

Modern industry increasingly requires competence and quality.

Le richieste di aumento della qualità nella produzione di tubi o contenitori sono aumentate in modo esponenziale negli ultimi anni, in particolare nei settori chimico-farmaceutico, scientifico e alimentare.

Avoid oxidation

One of the fundamental requirements imposed on pipe welding is to avoid oxidation of the weld during the initial phase.

The welding torch provides inert gas coverage to the top of the fusion area, but the opposite area remains exposed to the air, unless the back shielding technique is applied.

The use of inert gases or reducing gas mixtures allows for achieving a clean and shiny weld bead, even on the side opposite the electric arc, ensuring its cleanliness.

Reactivity of the metal

Every single material requires a specific shielding gas.

Carbon steel, stainless steel, Duplex and Superduplex, aluminum, and many other alloys have different metallurgical characteristics and reactivity to air.

The choice of inert gas or reducing mixture must be made according to the compatibility criterion of the material to be welded and the critical aspects of the atmosphere generated inside the tank or pipe to be welded. Devices and analyzers are available on the market that allow the correct and safe use of reducing gas, avoiding gas waste or incorrect use that can compromise the operational result.
