Nippon Sanso Holdings Group and MIMIT Sign Agreement on Electronics and Semiconductor Investments
Rome, 22nd of October 2026. Italy and Japan are strengthening their industrial cooperation to foster new investments in semiconductors, electronics, and advanced technologies. This is the objective of the Letter of Intent signed by Nippon Sanso Holdings Group and the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT).
“Through this agreement, we are reinforcing the industrial partnership between Italy and Japan and creating the conditions to translate institutional dialogue into tangible investment opportunities. Our goal is to further strengthen Italy’s role as a strategic platform for the development of advanced technologies that support the competitiveness of European industry,” said Adolfo Urso, Italy’s Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
“Italy is a strategic market for Nippon Sanso Holdings and an important European hub for advanced technologies. We look forward to leveraging our expertise alongside Italy’s industrial and scientific excellence to explore new investment opportunities,” said Tadaharu Watanabe, CEO of Nippon Sanso Holdings Group.
The agreement establishes a structured framework for identifying, assessing, and evaluating new investment projects in Italy, bringing together the country’s industrial development priorities with the technological capabilities and growth strategy of the Japanese industrial gases and healthcare company. A key focus of the collaboration is the development of new production capabilities in Italy for high-technology sectors, including the semiconductor and electronics value chains. Beyond serving the domestic market, these initiatives are intended to support growing demand across Europe.
With the support of the Ministry’s offices and agencies, Nippon Sanso Holdings Group will evaluate opportunities that may include new production facilities, advanced technology infrastructure, and industrial and scientific partnerships. The objective is to strengthen Italy’s industrial ecosystem, enhancing its ability to attract investment, accelerate innovation, and develop specialised expertise.
The collaboration also aims to promote closer integration among industry, universities, and research institutions, supporting the creation and expansion of centres of excellence and technology competence hubs. This approach is designed to advance know-how, cultivate highly skilled talent, and support the development of emerging industrial value chains.
The agreement forms part of a broader effort to enhance the attractiveness of Italy’s manufacturing base and to deepen international partnerships in high-value-added sectors, contributing to growth, innovation, and the long-term competitiveness of both Italian and European industry.
“This agreement reflects our shared ambition to strengthen industrial collaboration and support the development of advanced technologies in Europe. By combining global expertise with local capabilities, we can help create the conditions for innovation, sustainable growth, and long-term competitiveness,” said Raoul Giudici, President of Nippon Sanso in Europe.
“We believe that the future of industry depends on the ability to advance technology and people together. This agreement enables us to look with even greater ambition at the opportunities arising from closer collaboration between Italy and Japan in the electronics and semiconductor sectors, also thanks to the investments already made by the Group in Italy. Making Nippon Sanso’s technologies and specialised expertise available also means contributing to the development of professional skills, strengthening collaboration with the research community, and generating long-term value for local communities and the broader industrial system”, added Eduina Marino, President and Chief Executive Officer of Nippon Sanso in Italy.
