Acetylene for metalfabrication industry

The synthetic fuel gas.

Fast brazing and cutting

Acetylene is a combustible gas that is obtained only by synthesis. Extremely unstable under normal conditions, it is transported in special containers when inside it is stabilized by a solvent (acetone or dimethylforlmamide) making the handling of the containers safe.

Why is acetylene used for welding?

Given its characteristics, acetylene is used in brazing processes and remains the fuel gas that allows for maximum productivity.

Its high flame temperature, which can be adjusted, makes it ideal for melting and welding metals, including stainless steel. Its high thermal power also makes it easy to weld and cut thick elements.

Storing and handling acetylene

Acetylene must be handled with the appropriate precautions and protective measures. Certain good practices should be followed during storage and use:

Storage

  • Secure acetylene cylinders vertically and store them in cool, well-ventilated areas away from heat sources, direct sunlight and open flames.
  • Keep cylinders separate from other combustible substances to avoid the risk of dangerous reactions.
  • Repair any damage causing leaks immediately.

Use

  • Use acetylene in naturally well-ventilated areas or with ventilation systems to convey combustion fumes outside.
  • Allow equipment used in processing to cool down after use.
  • Protect and replace hoses in good time to ensure they remain intact.
  • Always close the cylinder valves when interrupting or finishing work.
