Euredia launches as the voice of refrigerant distributors and reclaimers in Europe
Brussels, 24 June 2026 – A new European industry association has been launched today to support the effective implementation of EU climate legislation and strengthen the integrity of Europe’s refrigerant market.
The European Refrigerants Distributors and Reclaimers Association (Euredia) is the first pan-European association representing refrigerant distributors, repackers and reclaimers.
Euredia brings together companies committed to ensuring that refrigerants placed on the EU market are recovered and managed at the end of life legally, safely and responsibly, supporting Europe’s climate objectives through compliance, enforcement and circularity.
The association launches at a critical moment for the sector as the EU implements the revised F-gas Regulation and accelerates the phase-down of fluorinated gases. At the same time, illegal trade, uneven enforcement and fragmented implementation across Member States continue to undermine both climate goals and fair competition within the single market.
“Distributors and reclaimers are where EU refrigerant policy becomes operational reality,” said Hans Craen, Chair of Euredia. “Our members focus on compliance, recovery and the lawful circulation of refrigerants across borders and throughout their lifecycle. Euredia was created to bring this practical expertise directly into the European policy debate.”
As the only European association dedicated to this segment of the refrigeration value chain, Euredia aims to provide EU institutions and national authorities with operational market insight to help develop practical, enforceable and evidence-based policy solutions.
The association will focus on three strategic priorities:
- Ensuring compliance through the proper implementation and enforcement of EU refrigerant rules across all Member States
- Strengthening market integrity by tackling illegal trade and supporting a level playing field for compliant operators
- Advancing circularity by promoting effective recovery, reclamation and reuse of refrigerants
Illegal trade in refrigerants remains a growing challenge for the EU market, with criminal networks increasingly exploiting enforcement gaps and regulatory asymmetries across borders.
Euredia advocates for stronger enforcement capacity, improved coordination of customs and market surveillance, enhanced traceability, and closer cooperation between Member States and EU institutions.
Circularity will also be a central priority for the association. Reclamation, the process of restoring used refrigerants to virgin-equivalent quality, plays a key role in reducing emissions and limiting reliance on newly produced gases. Euredia supports measures to strengthen reclamation capacity, improve recovery practices and enhance transparency across the circular refrigerant supply chain.
“Europe has some of the world’s most advanced refrigerant legislation, but its success depends on consistent implementation and effective enforcement,” said Carmine Marotta, Vice-Chair of Euredia. “Euredia exists to support a transparent, compliant and circular refrigerant market that delivers both climate ambition and fair competition.”
Euredia represents 10 founding member companies operating across Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. The founding members include A-Gas, Beijer Ref, Climalife, Gazechim, General Gas, GRIT, Kontes, Nippon Sanso, Tazzetti and Westfalen.
The association will engage with EU policymakers, national authorities, and industry stakeholders on the implementation of EU climate and refrigerant legislation, including issues related to circularity, market surveillance, and the transition to refrigerants with lower global warming potential (GWP).
